The
night had been long and tiring. He alone had been awake for around 72
hours, working the majority of those hours away, his mind a slave to the
machine, typing and typing, line of code after line of code. His hope
was to finish the game earlier then planned, so the stress tests of the
servers and game could be done for a longer period. The company (more of
a team in his eyes) he manages is a large video game developer, credited
with releasing many popular titles in nearly every field of game-play,
mainly First Person Shooters and RPGs. This was the big test though, a
new MMORPG to compete with the larger titles out there, like Asheron's
Call and Everquest. Except this one would surpass them, it is set in the
future and involves everything, from planet-side resource harvesting,
colonization, space pirates to massive fleet combat versus other groups
online. It is every sci-fi nerd's wet dream.
The
only problem though is the technical issues, finding out how to fix
minor bugs, then trying to fix the other bugs that the fix to those one
cause, it is an endless cycle at times or reworking code, but in the end
it would be worth it, and the end was coming near, soon this would be
released and he and his team would be reaping the benefits.
All
this though he set aside, sitting down in his nice, comfy, leather
computer chair with its high back, letting the memories of today filter
into the background. He turned on his computer and brought out his VR
rig, hooking it up and waiting until the computer finished booting up.
He went through his security program and then to a command prompt,
typing in the command to begin his immersion program. Then he slowly
slid the VR goggles on and drifted off for an hour or so of play time.

On
August 18th, 1977, Kara Zaitsev gave birth to a male child, Marcus
Zephanther Zaitsev. The doctors deemed the child healthy and fit to
leave the hospital within a few days, giving him over to his parents and
sending them home.
Kara
and Karl raised the child like normal parents, the family living in
Mountain View, in a wealthy suburb. This child grew up with little
difficulties in life, going to a private school and being taught by some
of the finest teachers around. He passed along as your average student
in each of his courses, excelling mostly in his math and science skills.
This changed with the introduction of some of the first computers. When
he took his first computer courses at his school the teachers noticed
his knack for operating the machines and even for repairing and
programming them, he went beyond what they could offer him and after his
graduation, he went to the nearest university, attending any course he
could get in on computers, even attending some other courses at
technical schools on computer repair and upgrade.
Amazingly
enough, this all worked for him, he was hired on to a high paying
programming firm and this began his introduction into computer
programming and the serious field of the computer industry. After a few
years there he made a couple of good friends, they all soon split off
after developing a couple of games together and made their own software
company, specializing in video game development.
This
has lasted them, they are one of the largest video game developers in
the industry, Marcus and his Financial advisors running the company and
keeping it in good form that way.

Marcus
sits quietly, looking around the airport with his laptop in hand, he
watches quietly as the sleepers wander to and fro, mindless of the real
world around them. He glances back to the screen with the arrival and
departure times, looking up and down at the flights and finally seeing
his, it had finally arrived after it's delay. He stands and heads over
to the entry, waiting quietly as usual.
His
flight was quick and painless, he arrived in New York only an hour late,
which isn't bad compared to most flights he has had. He walks out,
getting his bags and heading outside, he walks over to the parking lot
and there is his car, as he requested. He uses the key to open it and
get in, soon after driving off to his new home. Tomorrow though the fun
begins, they get to set up the new office and prepare for the release of
their new MMORPG 'Legacy of the Stars'. |
